Program This Week:
"Up in the Air" with Juliet Siddons, Program Director of Challenge Air

Juliet returns to Challenge Air after a 2 year hiatus. She originally started working for Challenge Air in October of 2014. She left in the summer of 2017 because her twin girls were starting their junior year in high school and she didn't want to miss anything.  As the Program Director of Challenge Air, Juliet organizes and plans all the Fly Days around the country and that means a lot of travel! During her two year break from Challenge Air, Juliet was the Volunteer Services Manager at the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas where she was able to help families with sick children to make their stay just a little bit better.

Juliet works with each committee Chairperson in the various cities that have Fly Days. She starts communicating with the committees a year in advance to make sure everything runs smoothly. The first Fly Day she attended in Conroe in 2014 she remembers thinking “wow, I get paid to do this!”

Before joining Challenge Air, Juliet worked as an IT Project Manager at Southwest Airlines, which is where her love of travel and fascination with flying began, and is also a Junior League of Dallas Sustainer. In high school she was a counselor at a camp for children with special needs in Cincinnati, Ohio. She loved working with the kids, and being able to combine her two passions has made Challenge Air the perfect place for her.

Juliet attended SMU as a Dance and English major. She later attended the University of Dallas, where she received her MBA in Information Systems. It took her a few career changes, but she has finally found her calling at Challenge Air for Kids & Friends.

When Juliet isn't attending a Fly Day she can usually be found watching college football, enjoying spending time with her family, traveling, and playing mahjong.

As a side note, Addison Rotary Club awarded Juliet's daughter, Ashley Siddons, Student of the Month in 2019.

Next Volunteer Opportunity:

A Return to the Raptor Center!

Do you remember the speaker about the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center in Lucas, Texas?  Or were you one of the Rotary group that went to volunteer last spring?  Well, because of popular demand, we are going back!  And they are thrilled to have us.  We will probably be doing the same thing as last year (making enrichment items for the birds) because honestly it sounded better than cleaning kennels or weeding to me.  The date: Saturday, April 25 from 9am to noon. Mark your calendars!  Note:  The Raptor Center is near Lake Lavon, southeast of Allen and north of Wylie.  Please let Laurie know if you would like to participate.

ROTARY TRIVIA

There is an article in this month's Rotary magazine (April 2026) about the tradition of singing in Rotary clubs (my dad's club in Galesburg, Illinois always sang a Rotary song or two before starting their meeting). What Rotarian is credited with starting this tradition, though it is rarely practiced these days?

Answer is at the bottom of the bulletin.

Trivia answer:  Harry Ruggles, the fifth Rotarian, began the tradition of singing in 1905 or 1906. He supposedly first did this to drown out a speaker's offensive joke or story.
