Cal Jillson received his Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1979. He taught at Louisiana State University (1980-87) and the University of Colorado (1987-95). Professor Jillson chaired the Department of Political Science at the University of Colorado, Boulder, from 1989 to 1993, before joining the faculty of Southern Methodist University in July 1995, where he served as Chair in the Department of Political Science and Director of the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies from 1995 to 2001. He is the author of nine books and editor of six more. Two recent books are The American Dream: In History, Politics, and Fiction (2016) and Race, Ethnicity, and American Decline (2024). He speaks frequently to civic, corporate, and professional groups and is interviewed by the media hundreds of times each year.
